Siemens is using Frame to stream a 45 day trial version of Solid Edge.

Frame, the cloud platform that lets users run ‘any software in a browser’, is to take its end user service into public beta on July 8.

This will allow anyone to install and run their own Windows applications – including 3D CAD/CAM/CAE software – in the cloud. Plans will start at under $10 per month.

The move to public beta, which also marks the arrival of product enhancements and expanded distribution, coincides with a $10m investment from Columbus Nova Technology Partners (CNTP), Bain Capital Ventures and SQN Venture Partners.
Frame told DEVELOP3D that it has added a new datacentre in Frankfurt to help better support European customers with low latency connections.

It will also publish ‘best practice’ guides for CAD applications, starting with SolidWorks, to help users get up and running more quickly. This will include the nuts and bolts of licensing.

DEVELOP3D looks forward to getting hands on with the public beta in the coming weeks. In the meantime, you can read about our experiences with the cloud platform here, back when Frame was called Mainframe 2.
