The 2018 Lexus Design Award has opened for entries, announcing the theme of ‘Co-‘, a Latin prefix that means together with, or in harmony, as well as its line-up of judges.

The judges and mentors include Japanese architect Shigeru Ban, known for his ingenious use of lightweight, unconventional and lightweight materials in his work; Paola Antonelli, curator of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA); Birgit Lohman, designer, product developer and Chief Editor of designboom; design journalist and commentator Alice Rawsthorn; and Yoshihiro Sawa, President of Lexus International, who started his motor industry career in production and design.

Each year the award attracts thousands of entries, from which the panel draw up a list of 12 finalists who will have their projects displayed by Lexus at Milan Design Week.
Among them, four will be selected to develop their concept into a prototype, mentored by established global designers and supported with a production budget of around £21,000.

Closing date for applications is 8 October, with details available here. The finalists will be revealed early in 2018.
