It’s up there as one of my clearest childhood memories of the Olympic games – the bizarre shape and construction of Chris Boardman’s Lotus track bike.

Designed by Mike Burrows, it’s monocoque, wind-tunnel honed carbon fibre shape, with its unaligned wheels and stretched rider position obliterated the field with a rider who otherwise modestly expected to win bronze at best.

Read the excellent article from this week’s Guardian by Barry Glendenning to get the full story, and bring back some wistful memories.
