Multi-faceted product development specialists ARRK Europe has opened a new 40,000 sq. ft injection moulding centre near Birmingham, UK.

Having secured the premises in Kings Norton back in October 2017, it has since made significant investment, with the installation of 6 Krauss Maffei injection machines (ranging from 80T to 1600T), robotic arms, material handling systems and a CMM machine.

“With this geographical advantage close to the heart of the UK automotive industry, ARRK are well placed to support customers,” said ARRK Europe MD Tony Lowe.

Gerber Technologies continues to move products to software subscription model

Gerber Technology is adopting a new subscription-based bundles option for the latest version of its AccuMark pattern design, production planning and 3D simulation software.

Gerber’s PLM offering has been available on a subscription basis for the last three years, a move it says has been ‘hugely successful’, with the addition of AccuMark subscriptions underscoring this.

“We are continuously looking for ways to help our customers win and that means providing them with the most innovative technology and new ways of engaging with us,” said Gerber chief strategy and digital officer Karsten Newbury.

Andstudio left its home in Estonia to swap with another studio in Italy for the Summer

Would you up-sticks and shift your design studio to the other side of the continent? This question arrives following the story of a design office switch for the summer between two previously unconnected studios.

Lithuanian design studio, Andstudio, reached out to several design studios around Europe with an offer to swap their working environments, and 12 studios showed interest with 6 shortlisted, finally a swap for the summer was agreed on with Muttnik, a Florence-based design studio.

The two teams of designers will be living each other’s lives for one month this summer, with the aim of getting the teams ‘familiar with an unfamiliar market and the challenges it poses’.

Aras boosts low-code capabilities for application modelling in Innovator 12

Aras has announced the latest release of its PLM system, Innovator 12, as it looks to further connect all the physical and digital engineering aspects of modern day product development..

Aras has continued to extend the platform’s modelling engine by adding new low-code capabilities to enable the creation of sophisticated data models composed of content at the paragraph, section and field level, with related items collectively treated as a single entity for the creation and management of documents with impact analysis of changes.

Possibly the biggest change comes to the User Interface (UI), where a simpler experience should enable higher employee engagement and increased employee productivity that should help Innovator work faster.

Formlabs and Glowforge power-up WeWork’s new Labs initiative

WeWork has announced a pilot partnership with Formlabs and Glowforge to create maker labs in its London, San Francisco, Houston, New York and Seattle locations.

WeWork Labs, the business arm of the global workspace company, is dedicated to supporting the growth of early-stage startups and corporate innovation and does a fine job of linking up creatives with business types to help get ideas off the ground.

Members will be given access to the Glowforge Plus 3D laser cutter and the Form 2 3D printer from Formlabs.

Boom Supersonic is 3D printing flight hardware with Velo3D’s additive metals technology

Boom Supersonic, the company building history’s fastest supersonic passenger airliner featured in our hallowed pages back in 2017, has partnered with Velo3D for the metals additive manufacturing needed for its XB-1 demonstrator aircraft.

The first independently-developed supersonic jet that will prove the key technologies in-flight for safe, efficient travel at Mach 2.2 (1,687mph), the XB-1 combines over 3,700 parts and some of the most advanced technologies including advanced carbon fibre composites, a refined delta wing planform, and an efficient variable-geometry propulsion system.

Boom and Velo3D have already conducted validation trials, which performed ‘accurately and to desired results’, and now Velo3D is developing two titanium flight hardware parts for XB-1 to be installed on the prototype aircraft in early 2020.

PTC adds linking and tracing elements in Windchill update

Following the news of PTC Windchill being available on Microsoft Azure’s cloud platform, the software company has announced further updates to its software management and systems engineering capabilities.

Windchill now includes built-in linking and tracing between its native product data management capabilities and systems engineering, requirements management, source code management, and testing – capabilities inherent in its current Integrity products, which will be rebranded under Windchill.

The Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) platform is looking to enable full product traceability and provide stakeholders with key insights throughout the product development and manufacturing cycles.
