Markforged announces pure copper Metal X 3D printing

It might be best know for its carbon fibre 3D printing, but Markforged has been doing some wondrous things with its Metal X range too, pushing the envelope even further by announcing pure copper as its new material.

“Every automotive factory in the world uses copper for welding,” said Markforged CEO and founder Greg Mark. “Complex production parts are required to weld tight spots of the car body. They cost thousands of dollars to make and can have months-long lead times.”

Mark suggests that the new Metal X material will change all of this by enabling manufacturers to design custom shapes, produce them in-house so they get them faster, on demand without need for storage and for significantly lower costs.
